Our Story

OUR STORY

In 2008 Mignon Francois set out to do one thing—help make ends meet. Using her “follow your spirit” approach, Mignon took the last $5 she had for dinner one week and developed a recipe for success that has grown into a destination bakery with over 5 million cupcakes sold.

With no money, no prior baking experience, or knowledge of the business, Mignon developed an iconic flavor that drew lines and attention to the hip nature of her Historic Germantown neighborhood

In 2015 Mignon was inspired to bring the brand back home to celebrate the city that raised her and honor the women who came before her.
The Cupcake Collection begins the work of expanding to Mignon’s hometown of New Orleans, LA through a series of pop-up shops.
The Cupcake Collection opens its first brick and mortar location on Magazine Street in New Orleans’ Historic Garden District.
As first-generation black business owners, today The Cupcake Collection seeks to carry the torch of teaching entrepreneurship and leading by example for other first-generation business owners to find a path to success.

At The Cupcake Collection we aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel, we are just trying to do classic things well, extending a daily invitation to find out what’s #SoYamGood about our sweet contribution to the local communities where we exist and the small business economy.

Our Products
Flavors in our collection pay homage to our family’s Louisiana heritage.

Featured daily from our kitchen are the sweet treats we rise early to prepare with you in mind, exactly the way our family has come to love them. Because we’d never dream of offering our personal guest something less than we’d offer family, that's also the reason we approach them the way we do.

Made with premium ingredients minus unnecessary artificiality, offerings include classic, mini, jumbo cupcakes, celebration cakes, wedding cakes, pupcakes, and a variety of gluten-free and vegan options.

Why We’re Closed On Saturdays
Our family legacy is grounded in Faith. It’s the place our joy streams from. Having a time set aside each week to worship together goes back as far as we can trace in our lineage. Keeping that tradition alive is what we believe has been a pillar on which we’ve built our success.

Our Mission
The Cupcake Collection exists to be a lighthouse in the community to show others what good business looks like, serving to light the way for other entrepreneurs so they will know what they can do if they believe.

Giving Back
The Cupcake Collection has a spirit of giving that is at the core of our business. We believe in pouring back into the community that helps keep the lights on in our cupcake shop. Each year, our giving is centered around education, food insecurity and family homelessness—areas that have personally touched and impacted our family’s lives. In that vein, we are committed to supporting local organizations that serve in those areas.
